I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to be an architect. As a child growing up in South Africa, I spent many weekends with my father visiting the various building sites of houses he had designed and was supervising. It fascinated me to watch them grow from nothing into things of beauty which the owners loved.

The bulk of my work as an architect is residential projects ranging from large social housing projects to small extensions for private clients. The key to good residential design for me is to arrange the small spaces you find in a home in a way that expresses the needs and desires of the occupants. To get the very best results I have learned that it is fundamental that the clients have prepared for the journey by exploring together the things that have had the biggest positive influence on them.
